Technical Product Owner

As a Technical Product Owner within the Product Management group, you will work closely with one of our agile cross-functional squads to help streamline the execution of product priorities. You’ll lead requirements gathering efforts, break down stories and groom backlogs. You’ll act as the customer proxy, making daily business decisions in order to help the squad move forward. You’ll be a shield to protect the squads from outside noise & pressure, and you’ll work closely with Product Managers to ensure you keep the vision and big picture in sight throughout each sprint iteration.

Let's talk logisitics. Are you located in Vancouver? Are you a Canadian Citizen or a holder of a valid work permit?

  • You have a strong background and technical experience either with backend APIs or with front-end technology and browsers.
  • You are experienced with and passionate about agile software delivery practices and methodologies
  • You have worked as a product owner in high performing teams that have built, deployed and iterated on large scale applications
  • You’re entrepreneurial and driven, but you’re also a gifted diplomat who can influence cross-functional teams without wielding formal authority
  • You know how to inspire, motivate and support a team to get stuff done
  • You have a burning desire for perfection but take a pragmatic approach to get there
  • You have strong project management skills and a propensity to document all the things
  • You are organized, structured and thorough in everything you do
  • You believe strongly in lean, validated learning, and you want to truly understand the core problem behind every opportunity
  • You can communicate in detail with the development team, so as to understand the implications of certain decisions and to make trade-offs in terms of complexity, depth or even timelines
  • You know how to manage changing requirements of a product and can prioritize bugs, technical debt and new features within a Backlog

  • Experience in the B2B SaaS world a plus

  • With input from Product Managers, tech leads, designers, and other stakeholders, you’ll build, groom and maintain sprint backlogs in JIRA to ensure we're always ahead of the game.
  • Gather requirements and ensure epics and user stories are well defined and prioritized. Identify missing requirements and work with UX, Product Managers and developers to fill in the gaps.
  • Attend and participate in agile meetings including daily standups, demos and retrospectives, and feed relevant insights back to Product Managers.
  • Lead backlog grooming and sprint kickoffs with squads to decompose/estimate stories.
  • Work with other Product Owners to define cross-team dependencies and nurture cross-team product requirements
  • Work closely with technical leads to define & communicate a tactical project plan that delivers the most value as early and as frequently as possible.
  • Communicate progress and release plans of initiatives to Product Management group and other stakeholders so as to ensure timely coordination of launch plans and product marketing.
  • Champion the voice of the customer and business for the squad, clarifying stories and assisting the squad with story estimates and sequencing.
  • Focus on end user requirements, working closely with UX, to ensure solutions are engaging and highly adopted by customers.
  • Work with Product Managers on defining release schedules for major features, and help identify customers for beta programs when necessary.
  • Identify new opportunities that arise from technical improvements delivered by the squad. Work with Product Managers to feed that insight back into the product roadmap.
  • Document new feature implementations and release notes to ensure effective internal training and support.
