We’re looking for a delightful DataOps Developer to join our Business Intelligence squad and help bring even more awesomeness to our flourishing data hub. You’ll be an integral member of our Data Chapter which brings together data disciplines from around the company: BI, Data Science, Data Analysis, Business Analysis, and Product Development.


You’ll be responsible for our data tooling and platform and help bring our data democratization mandate to life.

This position is open to candidates in Vancouver.


Let's talk logistics. Are you located in Vancouver? Are you a Canadian Citizen or a holder of a valid work permit?

  • You have extensive experience in building and operating batch ETL pipelines and workflows. We’re trending towards a Luigi, AWS Data Pipeline, and the AWS EMR stack
  • You are familiar with ‘real time’ streaming event processing systems like Storm, Spark Streaming, Flink, and Google Cloud Dataflow
  • You have a solid understanding of data warehousing techniques, how to transform OLTP to OLAP, how event streams fit in, and how to keep it agile and anti-BDUF
  • You are versed in distributed computation/programming frameworks/models like MapReduce, graph processing, and DataFlow
  • You are comfortable with modelling complex distributed software using techniques like messaging, Domain Driven Design, Event Sourcing, and CQRS
  • You have a deep understanding of data structures (timeseries, columnar, document, key value, relational, counters, CRDTs, probabilistic, etc), and when/how to apply them
  • You have operational experience with Spark, and Spark performance tuning
  • You have opinions about big data processing architecture themes like Kappa and Lambda
  • You have experience in database administration. We use MySQL, Dynamo and Redshift
  • You have extensive experience in building and maintaining data integration components. We integrate with RDBMSs, event streams, third party HTTP APIs, unstructured data sinks like log files, web scrapes, etc
  • You have worked in a DevOps role automating infrastructure. We use AWS, CloudFormation, TerraForm, and Docker, among others
  • You have experience with distributed file systems like HDFS, S3, and EMRFS
  • You have experience with distributed message queues like Kafka and Kinesis
  • You have experience in data modelling for BI tools that enable reporting, metrics, KPIs, and alerting. We’re using Mode Analytics, and Domo
  • You have used and integrated with modern analytics tools like Mode, Looker, Chartio, Tableau, etc
  • You have a passion for all things data. You dream about distributed systems and wish you could be a fly on the wall in a Google Spanner development sprint
  • You’re a delight to work with
  • BONUS: You vehemently support our initiative of constantly making terrible pun jokes and abysmal alliteration
  • Develop, maintain and support the Unbounce data hub: our collection of batch and real time ETL pipelines and data sinks. We’re currently using SQL, Spark, Python, R, Luigi, Parquet, S3, MySQL and RedShift
  • Develop, maintain and support data sync integrations with all our third party SaaS products (Recurly, Zendesk, HubSpot, etc)
  • Work with our Data Chapter team (comprised of BI, Data Science and Analyst capacities) to support current and anticipate future data needs
  • Work with the Engineering team on building and maintaining our internal Event Bus. We’re currently using SNS+SQS and Kinesis
  • Instrument our marketing web properties (, Unbounce Blog, etc) with web analytics tracking. We’re currently using GA, GTM, KissMetrics, and Segment
  • Instrument our product, both server side and client side, with user behaviour tracking and analytics. We’re currently using JSON schema and a custom built ‘event bus’
  • Train and advise Data Chapter members with data munging best practices
  • Advise and work with the Platform product development squad on our in-app analytics, web tracking, and AB testing components/features
  • Keep a close pulse on the data tooling landscape to identify opportunities to outsource
  • Work with the QA chapter on adding automated testability, validation, and auditing to our data pipelines and data products
